Do Follow Plugin

Posted February 4th, 2009 by Russ Adams

So you've decided to start a do follow blog, but aren't sure how to go about it.

You could simply get a do follow plugin, but you will need more than that to keep yourself sane with your new do follow blog.

I'm going to start with the do follow plugin. Basically this plugin removes the nofollow tag from the name link in the comments. You can do this manually by editing your WordPress theme, but for those of you who aren't familiar with this there are two plugins that will make it easier.

  1. DoFollow 4.0 - This plugin removes the nofollow tag in addition you have the option to set a comment age limit for adding the nofollow tag, or have comments from registered users and visitors handled differently.
  2. Do Follow Plugin - This is a simpler plugin, and the one I would recommend for beginners. This plugin only removes the nofollow tag.

Other plugins you'll need:

Askimet - This is a must have for all blogs, and comes pre-installed with WordPress. This is simply an awesome plugin that catches most of the spam out there. Keep in mind this will do nothing for user generated spam such as "Great post" just to get a link.

Bad Behavior - This helps by functioning as a gatekeeper by preventing spammer from delivering their spam or even reading you site to begin with.

Once you have your blog set up and plugins enabled, you'll have to monitor your comments very closely. You only want to keep meaningful comments. It is extra work, but also a great way to get traffic to a new website.

Welcome to the Do Follow Community, and thank you for giving back.
